Davie, FL- UWC @ STU tutor Denise Pichardo was recently awarded the SWCA 2010 Tutor Award for her excellence in the field throughout the previous year.

When asked about how she felt when she first heard the news of her winning the award, she had these words to say: “I felt overwhelmed. I couldn’t believe that I had actually won the award. For me, the most shocking part was hearing from the awards committee that I unanimously won the award. I couldn’t believe it. I beat other undergraduate and graduate students that had more experience than me. I feel honored and humbled by winning this award."

"Everything I did as a tutor wasn’t to win an award. I did it because I wanted to help people and expand the UWC into starting satellite centers in high schools. My belief is that if college tutors can go into high schools and help them, then they should. This way when those students enter college they will be more prepared in their writing."

When asked what she planned to do with her $250 award, Denise jokingly replied, "I plan to lower one of the balances on my credit card."
